Multipurpose converted garage

My clients had their garage behind their Bath property converted into a newly build space with a threefold purpose: Home Office, Hobby Room and Guest Room.
They wanted the space to be both functional and inviting.

In speaking with my clients, as they lived in different countries, I asked which places they really liked. They enthusiastically responded: Italy, and in particular Tuscany. It was also their dream to live it Bath, which is known for its sandstone architecture and Roman heritage.

As their space is a new build, and it doesn’t have any of the typical Tuscan features like
exposed beams and arches or stonework, I translated the Tuscan look and feel into the space.
I based the colour scheme on the Italian stone and marble that is quarried there, specifically Travertine, as this has a lot of different warm, mellow and sunny colours in it, from light yellows to off white, to greyish and light terracotta, to beige and creamy colours.

Combined with the stone, I used natural materials such as oak and reclaimed wood,
contrasted it with metals, and complemented it with terracotta and ceramics.

AFTER: The Guest Room side of the space. Warm, inviting Tuscan feel.

BEFORE: My clients had already chosen the flooring, but I advised them to have it laid diagonally, which makes it look wider.

AFTER: Home Office side of the space. Custom designed desk with shelving, all made from reclaimed scaffold boards.

A custom built desk because of the boxing in on either side of the room.

The panel on the right, with travertine stone effect, serves a double purpose as a hobby table. The folding tables for this are stored behind the panel (see next picture).
